Episode Transcript:

it is my and my salvation. Whom shall we? Whom shall I see? The Lord is my and my salvation. Shall we hum shut today? We're going to look at someone 19 verse 25 through 32. And it would be most helpful to have your Bible open so you can read it and a pin where you can market or take notes.

Because today we're gonna unpack some of the key words and structure, and tomorrow we're gonna look at what they mean. The beauty of the Psalms is that they give us a song for every season of life. And the amazing thing about someone 19 is this going to walk us through every age in every stage of life.

And in this section, we're going to see how does the word help heal us in the midst of darkness in the midst of sadness and look at this psalm is framed. 1st 25 my soul clings to the dust. And in verse 31 I cling to your testimonies.

So that's our frame that's going to structure the psalm and let us know this is what it's about. So this is about how do you respond. How does the word help you? How do you find light and healing in the midst of depression? Darkness clinging to the dust? That's a metaphor for depression.

Our soul is clinging to the dust and the the solution is clinging to the word. Now dust is an image for death. Remember, from dust we have come and from dust we will return. And so the call here is Somehow he needs resurrection.

My soul clings to the dust. Revive me according to your word. So he needs resurrection. So the first thing I want you to mark is those two words of cling cause that's gonna frame it what we clinging to.

But then there's two different times that my soul is used my soul in verse 25 then look again in verse 28. My soul weeps because of grief. So these are going to set up for us. The two situations of the soul.

First part is depression clinging to the dust. The second part is grief, sadness we've seen. So those are our two souls situations. And then this home is going to give us seven prayers to pray in the day of darkness.

See frame at verse 25 26 27 or about the days of depression in 28 29 30 about the days of grief and sadness. So mark those that take a pin and read through and see if you can mark all seven prayers. See a prayer for Revive me, Teach me, make me understand.

Strengthen me. Remove the false way from may graciously grant me your law. Do not put me to shame. Notice where the seven prayers are. There's threes at her under the soles. Dark days of depression. Why? What's he asking for? And there's four who pray during the days of sadness.

Why? What are those? Four. What is he asking for? So mark those and then notice once after their seven prayers. There's four activities or four things that he's resolved to do. Mark those I have chosen.

I have placed. I will cling. I will run. So you're asking. So why air those there? How did they fit? How do they relate? How is this a response and then notice how it ends. This section begins with the soul clinging to the dust down in the darkness and then it ends.

I shall run the way of your commandments, for you will enlarge my heart. So what's the story here? How do you move from a salt of the first images? A soul that's bent over clinging to the dust. And then it ends in an image of the soul that's upright, alive.

It's running. It's been enlarged. So how does that happen? How does the word bring us from a place of bent over an anguishing grief to upright and running? And why does he say that the Lord will enlarge his heart? Maybe it's because he knows the great danger of depression and sadness is to get small.

You get small, you fixate on small things. And here's a promise that he will set us free from the restricting and confining shackles, that negative thinking. And somehow he moves from a place of deep sadness to a prep place of broad freedom.

So our question is, how how do you get there? That's what we'll talk about tomorrow. But today I just want, you know, make sure you note all of those different things. Notice the two framing souls, notice the seven different prayers, noticed the four actions that he ends and how they all relate.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow pretty him. All creatures here be the praise him of ah, he have in the who praise father, son, and huh the go, uh, praise God from whom All blessings flow Praise him all creatures here the the praise him of ah, he have in the who praise father son, and huh the go, uh
